Third Grade Classes

Students will be participating in Accelerated Reading. This program encourages students to read books at their independent reading level and take a short quiz on the computer. Magrill recognizes excellent performance in the program with awards and celebrations. The widget below show our school's participation.

Bluebonnet Award Reading Program

We will be kicking off the Bluebonnet Award Reading program in the fall with booktalks and book trailors of this year's list of 20 nominated titles. The books are selected by librarians across Texas because they exemplify good literature from various genres for students from third through sixth grade. The program encourages students to explore new books written by new as well as favorite authors from various genres. Students participate in this program by reading, or having read to them 5 of the books on this list. In January, they get to vote on their favorite book. Encourage your third grade student to READ 5 THEN DECIDE! Here is the 2012-13 list:

Bluebonnet Aware Nominees 2011-13

The 2012 winner is The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.

Students chosen from Texas Library Association's 10 districts charmed the Texas Bluebonnet Award luncheon crowd at TLA 201s in Houston as they introduced the winning book and its creator, Tom Angleberger.

Book Check Out
Third grade students can check out up to three books for a two week period. They are welcome to renew books for additional time if needed. This year Magrill will be using the Accelerated Reading program to encourage reading growth and success.
